Craig Johnston
Craig grew up in the Hunter, and his dream was always to be the greatest soccer player in the world. Nicknamed “Skippy” Craig played professionally as a midfielder in the English Football League between 1977 and 1988, winning five league titles and an FA Cup. Whilst still at the top of his game at Liverpool, he received news from his parents that his sister Faye had been seriously injured. His life was about to change.
“We all thought Faye would get better but she didn’t… nobody could help. So I retired from football, it was a big decision.”

Paul Anicich
A prominent lawyer and Chairman of Newcastle-based national law firm Sparke Helmore where he worked for over 35 years. Seriously injured in the 2002 Bali bombing, Paul counts himself lucky to have survived and now spends time assisting others who have suffered brain injury.

Community Education Team (CET)
Headstart is passionate about educating people - especially children - on acquired brain injury and the impact of an ‘invisible injury’. Headstart’s CET have been in existence for the past 30 years and presents to schools, Traffic Offender Programmes, different faculties at Universities, other organisations, at forums, Football Clubs, Drive Alive Programmes.
Eddie Cross
A professional Hunter photographer, Eddie, has many years of experience capturing business, family and local scenery. Eddie has been part of the extended team at Headstart for over a decade and runs our “Happy Snappers” photography group which is very popular with our consumers.
“Sue asked me to help some members of Headstart with a photography class and so in 2008 the tutoring commenced.”
