Beyond Brain Injury

Our Ambassadors

All of us at Headstart are passionate about educating our community about brain injury. We are excited to have so many committed people involved.

Craig Johnston

Craig grew up in the Hunter, and his dream was always to be the greatest soccer player in the world. Nicknamed “Skippy” Craig played professionally as a midfielder in the English Football League between 1977 and 1988, winning five league titles and an FA Cup. Whilst still at the top of his game at Liverpool, he received news from his parents that his sister Faye had been seriously injured. His life was about to change.

We all thought Faye would get better but she didn’t… nobody could help. So I retired from football, it was a big decision.

If I was chosen to survive, which is the way I see it, I was chosen for a reason.

Paul Anicich

A prominent lawyer and Chairman of Newcastle-based national law firm Sparke Helmore where he worked for over 35 years. Seriously injured in the 2002 Bali bombing, Paul counts himself lucky to have survived and now spends time assisting others who have suffered brain injury.

I broke my daughters heart on her 14th birthday when I didn’t know who she was.
