Beyond Brain Injury: ABI Ambassadors

Eddie Cross

A professional Hunter photographer, Eddie has many years of experience capturing business, family and local scenery. Eddie has been part of the extended team at Headstart for over a decade and runs our “Happy Snappers” photography group which is very popular. To date Headstart have held three Art and Photographic Exhibitions of these works.

In Eddie’s own words:

“In August 2006 Sue McHattie of Headstart approached me at an ABI Awareness walk function. Sue thanked me for sharing my story of the ABI I got playing AFL in May 2006 in the Newcastle Herald.

Sue asked me in time would I be prepared to help some members of Headstart with a photography class and so in 2008 the tutoring commenced.

I am fortunate that because of my personal background of brain injury the Headstart clients are more open to me giving them instruction and constructively critiquing their images. I do this with fun and comedy as with anybody laughter is proven to be the best medicine for one’s soul.

The overall feeling of warmth and goodness that envelopes me when helping the clients of Headstart with their photography is uplifting and inspiring. It moves me to a realm of connectedness”.
