Recreation Activities 2020
Ben is our Recreation Activities Coordinator, or Rec Worker: “The past 6 months of COVID-19 has had a big impact on all of our social lives, as well as making it more challenging to get out and get active. It is very important to find ways to get exercise into your day, and if it can be done safely with some friends, all the better!”
So I encourage you to let me know what interests you, or maybe come along and try something new.
Covid Safe Changes
To get social activities happening again we need to take some extra precautions to ensure we minimize the chance of spreading coughs, colds and of course Covid-19! Its not too difficult, and will allow us to get back out there doing things!
You’ll notice all the activities on the October calendar are all in open– air venues, and generally not in busy locations. A few other things:
Limited seating in the vehicles for group activities
Smaller group sizes for now (max 5 consumers + Support workers)
Wearing masks when we can’t socially distance
Regular hand hygiene with alcohol hand rub during the day
And of course– if you are feeling unwell or have cold/flu symptoms, please notify Ben ASAP, and stay home!
What’s coming up? Check out your Recreation Activity Calendar for specific events, dates and times.
Highlights for October include:
Dog park meetup
I know a lot of people out there have a fur baby at home– this is a chance to meet some other people with the same love for dogs, as well as getting some exercise. (for you AND them!).
• Your dog must be safe to meet other dogs and people: in control and not aggressive.
• You need to check with your support worker if they are willing to transport your dog in the car
• I will put on some coffees in the park to keep us warm and caffeinated
• Cost: free
Stuck at home? Online cooking!
If you can’t get out for a social activity at the moment, maybe you can join me for a video cooking class? While I’m not a MasterChef, I do have a few good recipes and together we can cook up a storm. I may even have a special guest...
• Ingredients will be already pre-packed in a box, so no shopping (this time!)
• We will use ZOOM on a phone, tablet or computer– so you will need to download this App, or get a support worker to help get you online
• Cost: $10
Bringing back the BOWLS
For the Bowls lovers– we have 2 bowls sessions. Please note: Charlestown is not open for social bowls, so this will be held at LAMBTON bowling club.
• Max 5 consumers + Support workers
• Wearing masks when we can’t socially distance
• We will wipe down our BOWLS regularly for hand hygiene
• Cost: free
