Current job opening: Recreation Worker, based in Hamilton, NSW

• 2 year contract (may become permanent dependent upon funding)
• Part time; minimum of 30 hours per week

Headstart Acquired Brain Injury Services provides recreational supports along with community access, living skills, in home support and attendant care for people with an Acquired Brain Injury. We are seeking a motivated, innovative, resourceful person to work creatively as a Recreation Worker supporting people with an ABI and make a difference in their lives in the long term. 

The Recreation Worker co-ordinates social, leisure and sports activities and identifies new and challenging activities in the community.  We embrace a philosophy that encourages the use of usual community services and facilities whilst reducing reliance on segregated disability services.  We support people to trial a variety of options in a group setting to increase opportunities for sustainable community involvement.  This position will explore innovative ways of shaping and delivering recreational activities, including online.

Your skills and experience
• Tertiary qualifications in recreation, health or welfare and completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’
• An understanding of the effects of brain injury for the individual
• Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment 
• High level communication and people skills
• Experience planning and delivering recreation programmes and strategies to enhance community inclusion, including web based
• Understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
• Experience working unsupervised whilst managing significant levels of risk
• Ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
• Knowledge of resources and the ability to build community networks
• Ability to supervise volunteers and support staff
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Commitment to the person with ABI as “the expert about their injury”
• Working with Children Check
• Current National Disability Insurance Scheme Worker Check NDISWC (or be willing to obtain)
• Current Provide First Aid certificate HLTAID011 (formerly known as HLTAID003)
• Driver’s licence with access to a comprehensively insured vehicle and willingness to drive and service vehicle

Hours: Minimum of 30 hours per week.    

Term: 2 year contract with the possibility of a continuing contract based upon funding and performance.
